In November 2005 Jane Davidson the
Minister for Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills announced the proposed
timetable for introducing the Foundation Phase throughout Wales. The
intention is that from the start of the 2010/11 school year all
3-7-year-olds will have access to the Foundation Phase.
The guiding principles of the Foundation
Phase are as follows:-
Raising Standards of Achievement
Enhance ‘Positive Attitudes’ to Learning
Address Developing Needs
Emphasis on Skill Development
Encourage ‘Life-long’ Learning
Ensure Experiential Learning takes place
Help children to become Active Citizens
Foundation Phase staff have attended
extensive training in order that we at Gelli Primary will be best placed to
advise you on the implementation of this new initiative.
In 2007 - 2008 we conducted our own
pilot in Gelli in preparation for the implementation of the initiative in
September 2008

Quality Play
Outdoor Learning Environment
Oracy Skills, (Speaking and Listening
Experiential Learning
Creativity & Problem Solving
Less ‘Recording
